Utility Company Improves Recovery Capabilities and Visibility with Managed Resiliency
One of America's largest natural gas utility companies improves recovery capabilities and visibility with Recovery Point's fully managed and automated application-level recovery service.
Overview
One of the largest, fully regulated utility companies in the United States, the client serves over 3 million natural gas customers and half a million electric customers across six states. Headquartered in the Midwest, the client has an annual revenue of around $5 billion.
Challenge
The client previously used Sungard Availability Services as their disaster recovery provider and Wipro as their professional service vendor to run disaster recovery exercises. The client was dissatisfied with the service they were receiving and when their contract with Sungard was up, they looked for a DR provider with more stability and better client support. Ultimately, Recovery Point won the contract in 2021.
Solution
Recovery Point’s solution provides the client with our Managed Resiliency service for Mainframe, AIX, and Intel, with recoveries
involving Commvault restore from backup and Mainframe Global Mirror/tape.Recovery Point’s fully managed, automated application-level recovery service rapidly returns the client’s user community to server and application log-in status during a full or partial outage — all from a unified, real-time interface that tracks resilience metrics and solution performance.
Results
The first DR test was conducted in early December of 2022 and was completed successfully. During the most recent post-test
review, the client stated this was the furthest they had recovered in years. The Managed Resiliency disaster recovery tracker dashboard and status tracking provide greater visibility, and the disaster recovery planning feature of the DR tracker helps the client organize their systems and applications by tiers.Recovery Point’s 100% North American-based support team continues to work with the client to improve visibility into their environment and reduce the total time for Commvault recoveries, with an emphasis on solution design and successful testing.
