Healthcare Client Adds Colocation to DR Services As Their Needs Expand

Learn how Recovery Point helped a healthcare system evolve from their existing physical tape backup to colocation services, improving their connectivity speeds.

  • Overview

The client is a private, university-based regional health system on the East Coast. As one of the largest private employers in its state, the health system’s more than 29,000 employees and 4,600 affiliated providers offer primary and specialty care at over a dozen hospitals, in more than 150 locations. The client is a longtime tape client of Recovery Point.

  • Challenge

The health system began as a physical tape backup client, storing their physical tape media in a Recovery Point offsite storage facility. As the client’s business and needs expanded, they came to Recovery Point for a disaster recovery solution, with mainly HP and Intel as part of their disaster recovery plan. As the client’s contract continued to evolve, they required colocation services in addition to their existing plan. The client now also required disaster recovery for I BM iSeries, pSeries, and HP servers.

  • Solution

Recovery Point provided the client with 32 new colocation racks, with dark fiber connecting Recovery Point to the client with additional power bandwidth to improve their connectivity speed.

These colocation services allow the client to manage servers and provide power, cooling, connectivity, and maintenance – all while the client controls their servers and content.

Recovery Point also provided the client with dedicated IP addresses to guarantee secure access to the client’s network, minimizing the risk of unauthorized network access.

  • Results

The health system now has an annual 72-hour remote test, with the latest tests completed without issue, ensuring their data is secure and available when they need it.

In addition, Recovery Point provides the client with Smart Hands service performed by highly trained Recovery Point employees to deliver troubleshooting, remote management, and client equipment installation. Recovery Point also continues to host the client’s offsite tape media storage as part of the consolidated solution.
